Text: 1 Thessalonians 1:3 — “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ…

Patience of hope is a virtue: it embodies a trait of excellence and it is of good moral. That is why it’s a virtue. Apostle  Paul commended the Thessalonian believers for three outstanding Christian virtues: that of Work of Faith, Labour of Love  and Patience of Hope

Hope is not just wishing; it is a confident expectation that God will fulfil His promises. “Patience of hope” refers to the ability to outlast  difficulties, delays, and trials because of  ones confidence in Christ and His promises. Patience of hope is a steadfast endurance based on ones trust in God. It is remaining faithful while waiting for God’s promises to come to pass. The believer’s hope is anchored in Jesus Christ, not in circumstances. Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised.”

Looking at the characteristics of Patience of hope, you will discover the following attributes: Patience of hope helps us to  endure trials, The Thessalonian church faced persecutions yet they remained faithful because their hope was in Christ. When hope is alive, believers do not quit when challenges arise. According to  James1:3-4   trials produce patience and spiritual maturity.

Patience of hope  allows you to wait  for God’s Timing . God’s promises may not come immediately, but hope gives us the  strength to wait. Abraham waited many years before receiving the promised son, yet he continued believing God. Isaiah 40:31  says “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”

Patience of hope has the capacity to produce stability. Any individual  without hope easily becomes discouraged in life, but with  hope believers are  kept  steady. Hope keeps  panic at bay  during difficult seasons. Romans 8:25 – “But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.”

Patience of hope brings our focus towards eternal rewards. The Thessalonians looked forward to Christ’s return bearing in mind  that  our present sufferings are temporary compared to the glory that awaits believers. Titus calls it “the blessed hope” Titus2:13.

There are several  men and women who exemplified this virtue” patience of hope” in biblical times. Abraham  waited for God’s promise despite old age and impossibility. Joseph went through severe suffering  as he   endured betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment while trusting God’s purpose.Job on the other hand,  his suffering was excruciating, yet he maintained hope in God. The early church is not exempted , it suffered persecution, yet remained steadfast because it  looked forward to Christ return.

However, when we accept  patience of hope there are  accruing  benefits  such as: Strength during trials, peace in difficult seasons, you become spiritually mature. Your Confidence in God’s promises is refreshed, as you begin to exercise victory over discouragement while in readiness for Chris’s return. Ultimately it’s a virtue that is  capable of promoting you in life and destiny.

Before concluding this piece,  it is imperative I  pinpoint ways we can develop the patience of hope. The Christian ways  of acquiring this virtue are quite simple and not grievous , just  as the word of God is simple and not grievous . The ways include:

By constantly studying  and meditating  on the word of God.

Let your focus be on Jesus Christ.

Encourage yourself in ceaseless prayers.

Remember always that God is a faithful God

Fellowship with other believers.

Be aware that the things you see are temporal while the spiritual things are eternal and it controls the physical. Add patience to your hope and appropriate your spiritual blessings  from heaven of heavens

In conclusion, the Christian life is not just  about believing and loving; it also entails enduring. Patience of hope enables believers to keep trusting God when answers seem delayed, to remain faithful during trials, and to look forward confidently to the fulfilment of God’s promises.

PRAYER

1. Oh lord give me the grace to remain faithful in my Christian journey in Jesus name.

2. My life receive a fresh touch from heaven of heavens in Jesus name.

3. Promoting virtue in patience of hope encounter my life afresh and promote my life in Jesus name.

4.Any power attacking my hope and my patience scatter and die in Jesus name.

5. I release myself from every spirit of discouragement in the name of Jesus

6. Because Joseph succeeded in life I too must succeed in life in Jesus name.

7. Job overcame his affliction in like manner I have overcome every affliction affecting my life.

8. Abraham enjoyed God’s promise for his life, I shall not miss God’s promise for my life in Jesus name

A Christian can help stabilize and strengthen his marriage by building it on biblical principles rather than emotions alone. Marriage is not sustained by love alone; it is sustained by commitment, prayer, forgiveness, and God’s grace. When two imperfect people continually submit themselves to God, He gives them the strength to remain united through every season of life. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 The “third strand” is God. When He remains at the centre of the relationship, the marriage has a firm foundation for stability and growth.

Marriage becomes stronger when both husband and wife seek God together through prayer, worship, and studying Scripture. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” Psalm 127:1

A husband is called to love his wife as Christ loves the church with patience, kindness, forgiveness, and selflessness. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church…”  Ephesians 5:25

Many marriages struggle because of poor communication. Speak honestly, listen carefully, and discuss issues before they grow into bigger problems.

No marriage is perfect. Learning to forgive and ask for forgiveness prevents bitterness from taking root. “Bear with each other and forgive one another…”Colossians 3:13

Praying for your spouse changes your heart and invites God’s help into the relationship. Pray for their spiritual growth, health, wisdom, and peace.

Protect your marriage from unhealthy friendships, inappropriate relationships, pornography, and anything that can weaken trust and intimacy.

Marriage requires intentional investment. Regular conversations, dates, and shared activities help keep the relationship healthy.

If serious challenges arise, seek help from mature Christian leaders, pastors, or biblical counsellors before problems become overwhelming.

A stable marriage is built when both spouses faithfully carry out their God-given responsibilities with humility and respect.

Continue learning, praying, serving God, and setting goals together. A marriage that grows spiritually often grows stronger emotionally.

 “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

“God Finishes What He begins”

Many people started  things but never finished  them. People started  businesses, relationships, dreams, and even spiritual journeys but stopped  halfway. But God is different. God does not stop half way. At the garden of  Eden,  God released a master plan for the  redemption of man. Genesis 3:15 “ And I will  put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel”  It took God four days to accomplish the redemption through our Lord Jesus Christ- 4000 thousand years.

When God begins a work in someone’s life, He does not abandon it halfway. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God is committed to completing His purpose in us. Paul wrote this verse to encourage believers that their growth, calling, and salvation were still in God’s hands. “He which hath begun a good work in you…” God started the work .Your salvation was not an accident. Your spiritual journey began because God called you. It is God  that started the conviction. Your transformation was initiated by God and God planted the purpose inside you.  By implication before you ever searched for God, He was already searching for you. The Holy Bible tells us that God called: Moses from the wilderness. God called   David from the sheepfold  while Paul the Apostle on the road to Damascus . God always initiates purpose. Indicating  that  If God started it, then your life has value and direction.

Paul did not say God “has finished” the work.
He said God “will perform it.” Some times believers become increasingly discouraged simply because they are not yet where they want to be either spiritually or otherwise. It is noteworthy  that growth takes time. Maturity takes time, likewise some healing might not be automatic; it takes time too. This  is because God at times works in stages.  A builder does not abandon a building because it is surrounded by scaffolding. The construction proves the work is still ongoing. In other words, your struggles do not mean God has left you. However  your  weaknesses  do not cancel your destiny “ for God’s  strength is made perfect in weakness. 2Cor:2:9. Moreso, your delays do not stop God’s promises. It took David thirteen good years to mount the throne after his kingly anointing. God is continually working in you.

God’s plan for your life is not destruction but transformation. The Holy Writ  calls God’s work a “good work”. This is because God wants to build your character, God wants to strengthen your faith , God wants to develop your purpose and ultimately prepare you  for eternity. That is to say that  even painful seasons can produce good results when God is involved.” All things work together for good to them that love God..” Romans8:28. Whereby what the enemy plan for evil, God can turn it for good.

The verse ends with:“…until the day of Jesus Christ.” God is faithful to finish what He starts. People may give up on you. Friends may stop believing in you. Even you may become tired of yourself. But God remains committed. God  will complete it.

You may fall, but God can restore you. You may feel weak, but God can strengthen you .You may feel unfinished, but God is not done yet with you,  because your story is being written.  Peradventure: your prayer grows weak or your faith becomes cold or your passion decreases, God is still able to revive, restore and complete His work in your life. So do not quit yourself when God has not quit on you: because the God who began the work in you is faithful to complete it.

Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep growing.

Prayer

Oh lord begin  a  new work in my life in the name of Jesus.

Oh Lord! the good work you have started in my life finish it to the shame and disgrace  of my enemies in the name of  Jesus Christ.

Power opposing God’s good work in my life  lose your hold in the name of Jesus Christ.

Anything in me, anything around me, anything inside me that is anti-God’s work release me and die in Jesus name.

I separate myself from anything that will make God not to  complete his work in my life in Jesus name.

“Lord, thank You for beginning a good work in my  life. Help me to  trust You even when I  do not understand the process. Strengthen me  where I am  weak, revive me  where I am  cold, and complete Your purpose in me . In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

THE POWER OF JOYFUL PRAYER

Text: Philippians 1:4 “Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy”

The book of Philippians was written by Paul the Apostle while he was in prison. Even though he was chained and suffering, his heart was still full of joy.  Paul says: “Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy.”

This verse teaches us that true joy is not based on circumstances, but on our relationship with God and our love for others. We are enjoined to be constant in prayer “Always in every prayer…”A believer should not pray only when there is trouble. Prayer must become a lifestyle bearing in mind that prayer   keeps us connected to God. Prayer gives strength in difficult times. Prayer opens doors that human effort cannot open. These facts are firmly supported in the scriptures. Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.” According to Jeremiah 33:3  “Call unto me, and I will answer thee.” As you pray without ceasing, you are calling unto the Lord God who answers prayer. You have every reason to continue in prayer. You will be disappointed when you stop  praying. Appointment  of victory and sustenance is through the power of prayer.

To this end; make time daily for prayer: Morning prayer, Family prayer, Personal quiet  time and Prayer for others. Paul prayed for Others. He  was praying for the Philippian church, not just himself. Many people pray only: “Lord bless me ”“Lord help me  “Lord give me money “But Paul teaches intercession — praying for others.

Why We Should Pray for Others; It shows love. It strengthens unity. God answers selfless prayers. It was after  Job prayed for his friends that God blessed him. Job 42:10 — God changed Job’s situation when he prayed for his friends. Praying  for your family, your church, your pastor, your friends and your nation, is not subject to negotiation.

In furtherance and above all you must need to serve  God With Joy, by praying ” with Joy”. Paul prayed “with joy.” Joy is a mark of spiritual maturity. The enemy wants believers to serve God with sadness, fear, or frustration. But God desires joyful service. Joyful service produces salvation, faith in Christ, hope in God and the environment for the Holy Ghost to operate unhindered. Nehemiah 8:10 — “The joy of the Lord is my  strength.” Despite the  heavy presence of the  enemies round about him, Nehemiah found strength in the joy of the lord. The Psalmist captures the essence of joy and how we must worship God   through gladness. Psalm 100:2 — “Serve the Lord with gladness.”. Our service to God through worship, through prayer, through giving, through service should be done joyfully. “God loves a cheerful giver!

 Joy is Stronger than circumstances. Paul wrote this letter from prison, yet he still spoke about joy. By implication, he  teaches that your situation does not determine your joy. God’s presence is greater than your problems.  For example ,Paul had chains but still praised God. Silas and Paul sang in prison. Jesus endured the cross because of the joy ahead. One of the great prophets of God Habakkuk, confessed  that even the in  face of  lack of  harvest he still rejoiced in God. Habakkuk 3:17–18.

In conclusion, Philippians 1:4 teaches us three powerful lessons: Pray continually. Pray for others and pray with joy. A joyful Christian is a power brand Christian. When prayer and joy come together, faith  becomes stronger

Today, God is calling you to:

• Return to prayer
• Pray for others
• Refuse sadness and discouragement
• Walk in the joy of the Lord

No matter what you are facing, God is able to  put joy in your heart.

Prayer

“Father, thank You for the gift of prayer. Teach me to pray always and to pray with joy. Remove every spirit of discouragement and fill my  heart with Your peace and gladness. Help  me  to remember others in prayer and to trust You in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
